April Gatica, LPC Associate supervised by Luke Oaks, MS, LPC-S

I earned my Master’s degree in Education with an emphasis in School Counseling from the University of St. Thomas and completed the Licensed Professional Counselor Bridge Program at Angelo State University. I have four years of experience working as a school counselor and over 17 years in the field of education, which has allowed me to develop a strong foundation in supporting children, adolescents, and teens.

Supporting positive mental health has always been a priority for me, which led me to pursue a career in the helping profession. I believe that when individuals develop effective coping skills, maintain a growth-oriented mindset, and care for themselves on a whole-body level, they are better equipped to navigate life’s challenges and experience greater success in their daily lives.

I work with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, and life stressors, as well as those who may simply need additional support navigating everyday challenges. I strive to be a trusted, compassionate presence where clients feel comfortable exploring their experiences and emotions. My therapeutic approach is grounded in cognitive behavioral therapy and solution-focused techniques, while incorporating trauma-informed strategies to ensure care is respectful, safe, and empowering. I also recognize that each client is unique and tailor therapy to meet individual needs and goals.

Outside of my professional work, I enjoy spending time with my family, attending church and church-related activities, and reading. I appreciate a good book and enjoy exploring a variety of genres in my free time.
