    DO I NEED THERAPY?

Counseling is a highly personal, very specific relationship between therapist and client(s) in which the client receives assistance determining their needs, goals, strengths, and abilities in order to improve their lives and the lives of those around them.

Every individual seeks therapy for different reasons according to their own journey. We believe that anyone at any time in their lives could benefit from working with a counselor. Examples of reasons people attend counseling could include but are not limited to these areas: anger, anxiety, behavioral issues in children, codependency, depression, grief and loss, mood issues, substance use, personal growth, PTSD/trauma/abuse, life transitions (divorce, big changes, adjusting to new things) and relationship issues.

HOW DO I CHOOSE A THERAPIST?

You want to choose a counselor that you feel comfortable with. Counseling is an intimate relationship that needs a high level of trust to give you the ability to open up.

You can read about each of our counselors in their bio pages to see if you have a connection with anyone in particular. If you do, just let us know when you call.

The good news about our office is that we are a multi-disciplinary office which means that we employ counselors with diverse backgrounds and various specialties. You do not need to pick a therapist before calling because our office staff will be able to match you with the therapist who fits your needs.

HOW LONG WILL I BE IN THERAPY?

Therapy is completely individualized so there is no magic number of sessions that we can promise or guarantee. Our goal is to provide short-term evidence-based treatment that can deliver results in under 20 sessions. Some clients need more sessions than that, some less, but we promise to maintain the utmost integrity in creating a plan with you and helping you as efficiently and as effectively as possible. The length of therapy is ultimately decided between the therapist and client as they work together on specific goals.

WHAT WILL MY FIRST SESSION BE LIKE?

By the time you come in for your first session, you will have already received an email with your secure portal link, and completed your intake forms through the portal. It’s imperative that you complete those forms BEFORE the first session so that you can spend your full time in session from day one.

During your session, your therapist will facilitate a discussion about your goals for therapy, needs, strengths, and begin an individualized plan for your treatment. You’ll schedule your next appointment and perhaps agree on some first steps in reaching your goals.

WHERE DO I NEED TO GO FOR COUNSELING SESSIONS?

Our office is located at 6500 Quaker Ave, Ste D in Lubbock, TX. We are on the corner of 65th street and Quaker Ave. Our entry is tucked away off of the street in a private courtyard. You will enter the glass door that is labeled “Journeys Counseling Center” then enter the large wooden door that says “Welcome.” Upon entering the lobby, you’ll see the Ipad where you will check-in. If it’s your first appointment, you will check in with Sadie, the client coordinator, and she will ensure your paperwork is complete and introduce you to your therapist.

We also offer Online Therapy throughout the state of Texas through our secure video platform. When participating in online therapy, you are sent a link and can easily access the secure portal with any electronic device and wi-fi.

    DO YOU ACCEPT INSURANCE?

Yes! We know therapy can be expensive, so we have chosen to accept most commercial insurances. We are in network with the following insurances: Aetna, Baylor Scott & White, BCBS, Cigna, ComPsych, FirstCare, Friday, Optum/UHC, Team Choice, Tricare West. If your insurance is not listed, it could be a third-party plan offered through one of these companies that we would also be able to accept. Please contact our office and we will be happy to look up your benefits. If we are out of network with your insurance, you can still choose to attend counseling at our office. Ask us about a Superbill which is essentially a receipt you can send to your insurance company, and they might possibly reimburse you for your sessions.
